Pre-liminary task Evaluation

Recently, me and two other colleagues has to create a short video footage demonstrating a few scenes. These scenes had to follow a pre-made script when filming. After all the filming, we had to then edit the video footage afterwards to improve the footage and place everything together as a whole. Finally, we had to burn the footage onto a disc.

In my opinion, some of the camera shots we used were very well placed and used as they matched the scene appropriately. Along with the camera shots, I also think that the edited music that we placed onto it worked very well and dramatised the whole film drastically. We even implemented some transitions to make the film run smoothly. Also, I think that one of the scenes that required the use of a phone, worked well as the camera zoomed in onto the item with a background sound effect added later in with editing. We did this to provid greater suspense and made the audience question what will happen next.

In order to improve for future projects, me and my collegues will need to critically analyse the footage. This is because some of the camera shots could of been better filmed, for example we had a scene that required the cameraman to walk and the camera was fairly shaky. A possible solution might be to use a stand with wheels or a suitable alternative. As well as the shaky camera filming, we had some lighting issues as at times, the characters were covered in a shadow and seemed like a silhoutette. This would be great for some scenes, but was poor for the conversation that the two characters were undertaking. A possible solution to this might be to carefully choose the filming location or use artificial lighting, if possible. Another problem that occured was that some of the spoken dialogue seemed a bit quiet and caused some viewers inability to follow the storyline. Whether this was due to the camera used or the volume we were speaking at, this is an area that we need to improve on and a suitable solution would be to raise vocal volume, or find a better location that has better acoustics to film. Finally, there were a few continuity errors found within the footage, such as the positioning of one of the character's tie which cut from being in a pulled down position to the fully done-up position. This is because we filmed on two separate days and must of forgotten the tie's position. To avoid this, we should observe previous footage to see if any small details were to be carefully examined.
